Thessalonians I chapter 3

Thessalonians I 3:1

^B In þizei ju ni usþulandans þanamais, galeikaida uns ei biliþanai weseima in Aþeinim ainai.

— διὸ μηκέτι στέγοντες εὐδοκήσαμεν καταλειφθῆναι ἐν ἀθήναις μόνοι,

— Propter quod non sustinentes amplius, placuit nobis remanere Athenis, solis :

— Wherefore when we could no longer forbear, we thought it good to be left at Athens alone;

— Daarom, deze begeerte niet langer kunnende verdragen, hebben wij gaarne willen te Athene alleen gelaten worden;

— C'est pourquoi, impatients que nous étions, et nous décidant à rester seuls à Athènes,

Thessalonians I 3:2

^B jah insandidedum Teimauþaiu, broþar unsarana jah andbaht gudis in aiwaggeljon Xristaus, ei izwis gatulgjai jah bidjai bi galaubein izwara,

— καὶ ἐπέμψαμεν τιμόθεον, τὸν ἀδελφὸν ἡμῶν καὶ συνεργὸν τοῦ θεοῦ ἐν τῷ εὐαγγελίῳ τοῦ χριστοῦ, εἰς τὸ στηρίξαι ὑμᾶς καὶ παρακαλέσαι ὑπὲρ τῆς πίστεως ὑμῶν

— et misimus Timotheum fratrem nostrum, et ministrum Dei in Evangelio Christi, ad confirmandos vos, et exhortandos pro fide vestra :

— And sent Timotheus, our brother, and minister of God, and our fellowlabourer in the gospel of Christ, to establish you, and to comfort you concerning your faith:

— En hebben gezonden Timotheus, onzen broeder, en Gods dienaar, en onzen medearbeider in het Evangelie van Christus, om u te versterken, en u te vermanen van uw geloof;

— nous envoyâmes Timothée, notre frère, ministre de Dieu dans l'Évangile de Christ, pour vous affermir et vous exhorter au sujet de votre foi,

Thessalonians I 3:3

^B ei ni ainshun afagjaidau in þaim aggwiþom; silbans auk wituþ þatei du þamma satidai sijum.

— τὸ μηδένα σαίνεσθαι ἐν ταῖς θλίψεσιν ταύταις. αὐτοὶ γὰρ οἴδατε ὅτι εἰς τοῦτο κείμεθα:

— ut nemo moveatur in tribulationibus istis : ipsi enim scitis quod in hoc positi sumus.

— That no man should be moved by these afflictions: for yourselves know that we are appointed thereunto.

— Opdat niemand bewogen worde in deze verdrukkingen; want gij weet zelven, dat wij hiertoe gesteld zijn.

— afin que personne ne fût ébranlé au milieu des tribulations présentes; car vous savez vous-mêmes que nous sommes destinés à cela.

Thessalonians I 3:4

^B jah auk þan wesum at izwis, fauraqeþum izwis þatei anawairþ was uns du winnan agliþos, swaswe jah warþ jah wituþ.

— καὶ γὰρ ὅτε πρὸς ὑμᾶς ἦμεν, προελέγομεν ὑμῖν ὅτι μέλλομεν θλίβεσθαι, καθὼς καὶ ἐγένετο καὶ οἴδατε.

— Nam et cum apud vos essemus, prædicebamus vobis passuros nos tribulationes, sicut et factum est, et scitis.

— For verily, when we were with you, we told you before that we should suffer tribulation; even as it came to pass, and ye know.

— Want ook, toen wij bij u waren, voorzeiden wij u, dat wij zouden verdrukt worden, gelijk ook geschied is, en gij weet het.

— Et lorsque nous étions auprès de vous, nous vous annoncions d'avance que nous serions exposés à des tribulations, comme cela est arrivé, et comme vous le savez.

Thessalonians I 3:5

^B duþþe jah ik ju ni usþulan<d>s insandida du ufkunnan galaubein izwara, ibai aufto usfaifraisi izwis sa fraisands jah sware wairþai arbaiþs unsara.

— διὰ τοῦτο κἀγὼ μηκέτι στέγων ἔπεμψα εἰς τὸ γνῶναι τὴν πίστιν ὑμῶν, μή πως ἐπείρασεν ὑμᾶς ὁ πειράζων καὶ εἰς κενὸν γένηται ὁ κόπος ἡμῶν.

— Propterea et ego amplius non sustinens, misi ad cognoscendam fidem vestram : ne forte tentaverit vos is qui tentat, et inanis fiat labor noster.

— For this cause, when I could no longer forbear, I sent to know your faith, lest by some means the tempter have tempted you, and our labour be in vain.

— Daarom ook deze begeerte niet langer kunnende verdragen, heb ik hem gezonden, om uw geloof te verstaan; of niet misschien de verzoeker u zou verzocht hebben, en onze arbeid ijdel zou wezen.

— Ainsi, dans mon impatience, j'envoyai m'informer de votre foi, dans la crainte que le tentateur ne vous eût tentés, et que nous n'eussions travaillé en vain.

Thessalonians I 3:6

^B aþþan nu at qimandin Teimauþaiu at unsis fram izwis jah gateihandin uns galaubein <jah> friaþwa izwara, jah þatei gaminþi unsar habaiþ god sinteino, gairnjandans uns gasaiƕan, swaswe jah weis izwis,

— ἄρτι δὲ ἐλθόντος τιμοθέου πρὸς ἡμᾶς ἀφ' ὑμῶν καὶ εὐαγγελισαμένου ἡμῖν τὴν πίστιν καὶ τὴν ἀγάπην ὑμῶν, καὶ ὅτι ἔχετε μνείαν ἡμῶν ἀγαθὴν πάντοτε, ἐπιποθοῦντες ἡμᾶς ἰδεῖν καθάπερ καὶ ἡμεῖς ὑμᾶς,

— Nunc autem veniente Timotheo ad nos a vobis, et annuntiante nobis fidem et caritatem vestram, et quia memoriam nostri habetis bonam semper, desiderantes nos videre, sicut et nos quoque vos :

— But now when Timotheus came from you unto us, and brought us good tidings of your faith and charity, and that ye have good remembrance of us always, desiring greatly to see us, as we also to see you:

— Maar als Timotheus nu van ulieden tot ons gekomen was, en ons de goede boodschap gebracht had van uw geloof en liefde, en dat gij altijd goede gedachtenis van ons hebt, zeer begerig zijnde om ons te zien, gelijk wij ook om ulieden;

— Mais Timothée, récemment arrivé ici de chez vous, nous a donné de bonnes nouvelles de votre foi et de votre charité, et nous a dit que vous avez toujours de nous un bon souvenir, désirant nous voir comme nous désirons aussi vous voir.

Thessalonians I 3:7

^B inuh þis gaþrafstidai sijum, broþrjus, fram izwis ana allai nauþai jah aglon unsarai in izwaraizos galaubeinais;

— διὰ τοῦτο παρεκλήθημεν, ἀδελφοί, ἐφ' ὑμῖν ἐπὶ πάσῃ τῇ ἀνάγκῃ καὶ θλίψει ἡμῶν διὰ τῆς ὑμῶν πίστεως,

— ideo consolati sumus, fratres, in vobis in omni necessitate et tribulatione nostra, per fidem vestram,

— Therefore, brethren, we were comforted over you in all our affliction and distress by your faith:

— Zo zijn wij daarom, broeders, over u in al onze verdrukking en nood vertroost geworden door uw geloof;

— En conséquence, frères, au milieu de toutes nos calamités et de nos tribulations, nous avons été consolés à votre sujet, à cause de votre foi.

Thessalonians I 3:8

^B unte sai libam, jabai jus gastandiþ in fraujin.

— ὅτι νῦν ζῶμεν ἐὰν ὑμεῖς στήκετε ἐν κυρίῳ.

— quoniam nunc vivimus, si vos statis in Domino.

— For now we live, if ye stand fast in the Lord.

— Want nu leven wij, indien gij vast staat in den Heere.

— Car maintenant nous vivons, puisque vous demeurez fermes dans le Seigneur.

Thessalonians I 3:9

^B ƕa auk awiliude magum usgildan [fraujin] guda bi izwis ana allai fahedai þizaiei faginom in izwara faura guda unsaramma,

— τίνα γὰρ εὐχαριστίαν δυνάμεθα τῷ θεῷ ἀνταποδοῦναι περὶ ὑμῶν ἐπὶ πάσῃ τῇ χαρᾷ ᾗ χαίρομεν δι' ὑμᾶς ἔμπροσθεν τοῦ θεοῦ ἡμῶν,

— Quam enim gratiarum actionem possumus Deo retribuere pro vobis in omni gaudio, quo gaudemus propter vos ante Deum nostrum,

— For what thanks can we render to God again for you, for all the joy wherewith we joy for your sakes before our God;

— Want wat dankzegging kunnen wij Gode tot vergelding wedergeven voor u, vanwege al de blijdschap, waarmede wij ons om uwentwil verblijden voor onzen God?

— Quelles actions de grâces, en effet, nous pouvons rendre à Dieu à votre sujet, pour toute la joie que nous éprouvons à cause de vous, devant notre Dieu!

Thessalonians I 3:10

^B naht jah daga ufarassau bidjandans ei gasaiƕaima andwairþja izwara jah ustiuhaima waninassu galaubeinais izwaraizos?

— νυκτὸς καὶ ἡμέρας ὑπερεκπερισσοῦ δεόμενοι εἰς τὸ ἰδεῖν ὑμῶν τὸ πρόσωπον καὶ καταρτίσαι τὰ ὑστερήματα τῆς πίστεως ὑμῶν;

— nocte ac die abundantius orantes, ut videamus faciem vestram, et compleamus ea quæ desunt fidei vestræ ?

— Night and day praying exceedingly that we might see your face, and might perfect that which is lacking in your faith?

— Nacht en dag zeer overvloediglijk biddende, om uw aangezicht te mogen zien, en te volmaken, hetgeen aan uw geloof ontbreekt.

— Nuit et jour, nous le prions avec une extrême ardeur de nous permettre de vous voir, et de compléter ce qui manque à votre foi.

Thessalonians I 3:11

^B aþþan silba guþ jah atta unsar jah frauja unsar Iesus Xristus garaihtjai wig unsarana du izwis.

— αὐτὸς δὲ ὁ θεὸς καὶ πατὴρ ἡμῶν καὶ ὁ κύριος ἡμῶν ἰησοῦς κατευθύναι τὴν ὁδὸν ἡμῶν πρὸς ὑμᾶς:

— Ipse autem Deus, et Pater noster, et Dominus noster Jesus Christus, dirigat viam nostram ad vos.

— Now God himself and our Father, and our Lord Jesus Christ, direct our way unto you.

— Doch onze God en Vader Zelf, en onze Heere Jezus Christus richte onzen weg tot u.

— Que Dieu lui-même, notre Père, et notre Seigneur Jésus, aplanissent notre route pour que nous allions à vous!

Thessalonians I 3:12

^B aþþan izwis frauja managjai jah ganohnan gataujai friaþwai in izwis misso jah allans swaswe jah weis in izwis,

— ὑμᾶς δὲ ὁ κύριος πλεονάσαι καὶ περισσεύσαι τῇ ἀγάπῃ εἰς ἀλλήλους καὶ εἰς πάντας, καθάπερ καὶ ἡμεῖς εἰς ὑμᾶς,

— Vos autem Dominus multiplicet, et abundare faciat caritatem vestram in invicem, et in omnes, quemadmodum et nos in vobis :

— And the Lord make you to increase and abound in love one toward another, and toward all men, even as we do toward you:

— En de Heere vermeerdere u, en make u overvloedig in de liefde jegens elkander en jegens allen, gelijk wij ook zijn jegens u;

— Que le Seigneur augmente de plus en plus parmi vous, et à l'égard de tous, cette charité que nous avons nous-mêmes pour vous,

Thessalonians I 3:13

^B du tulgjan hairtona izwara unfairinona in weihiþai faura guda jah attin unsaramma in quma fraujins unsaris Iesuis Xristaus miþ allaim þaim weiham seinaim.

— εἰς τὸ στηρίξαι ὑμῶν τὰς καρδίας ἀμέμπτους ἐν ἁγιωσύνῃ ἔμπροσθεν τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ πατρὸς ἡμῶν ἐν τῇ παρουσίᾳ τοῦ κυρίου ἡμῶν ἰησοῦ μετὰ πάντων τῶν ἁγίων αὐτοῦ. [ἀμήν.]

— ad confirmanda corda vestra sine querela in sanctitate, ante Deum et Patrem nostrum, in adventu Domini nostri Jesu Christi cum omnibus sanctis ejus. Amen.

— To the end he may stablish your hearts unblameable in holiness before God, even our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all his saints.

— Opdat Hij uw harten versterke, om onberispelijk te zijn in heiligmaking, voor onzen God en Vader, in de toekomst van onzen Heere Jezus Christus met al Zijn heiligen.

— afin d'affermir vos coeurs pour qu'ils soient irréprochables dans la sainteté devant Dieu notre Père, lors de l'avènement de notre Seigneur Jésus avec tous ses saints!
