Ephesians chapter 2

Ephesians 2:1

^{A + B} Jah izwis wisandans dauþans missadedim jah frawaurhtim izwaraim,

— καὶ ὑμᾶς ὄντας νεκροὺς τοῖς παραπτώμασιν καὶ ταῖς ἁμαρτίαις ὑμῶν,

— Et vos, cum essetis mortui delictis et peccatis vestris,

— And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;

— En u heeft Hij mede levend gemaakt, daar gij dood waart door de misdaden en de zonden;

— Vous étiez morts par vos offenses et par vos péchés,

Ephesians 2:2

^A in þaimei simle iddjeduþ bi þizai aldai þis fairƕaus, bi reik waldufnjis luftaus, ahmins þis nu waurkjandins in sunum ungalaubeinais,

— ἐν αἷς ποτε περιεπατήσατε κατὰ τὸν αἰῶνα τοῦ κόσμου τούτου, κατὰ τὸν ἄρχοντα τῆς ἐξουσίας τοῦ ἀέρος, τοῦ πνεύματος τοῦ νῦν ἐνεργοῦντος ἐν τοῖς υἱοῖς τῆς ἀπειθείας:

— in quibus aliquando ambulastis secundum sæculum mundi hujus, secundum principem potestatis aëris hujus, spiritus, qui nunc operatur in filios diffidentiæ,

— Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:

— In welke gij eertijds gewandeld hebt, naar de eeuw dezer wereld, naar den overste van de macht der lucht, van den geest, die nu werkt in de kinderen der ongehoorzaamheid;

— dans lesquels vous marchiez autrefois, selon le train de ce monde, selon le prince de la puissance de l'air, de l'esprit qui agit maintenant dans les fils de la rébellion.

Ephesians 2:3

— ἐν οἷς καὶ ἡμεῖς πάντες ἀνεστράφημέν ποτε ἐν ταῖς ἐπιθυμίαις τῆς σαρκὸς ἡμῶν, ποιοῦντες τὰ θελήματα τῆς σαρκὸς καὶ τῶν διανοιῶν, καὶ ἤμεθα τέκνα φύσει ὀργῆς ὡς καὶ οἱ λοιποί:

— in quibus et nos omnes aliquando conversati sumus in desideriis carnis nostræ, facientes voluntatem carnis et cogitationum, et eramus natura filii iræ, sicut et ceteri :

— Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.

— Onder dewelke ook wij allen eertijds verkeerd hebben in de begeerlijkheden onzes vleses, doende den wil des vleses en der gedachten; en wij waren van nature kinderen des toorns, gelijk ook de anderen;

— Nous tous aussi, nous étions de leur nombre, et nous vivions autrefois selon les convoitises de notre chair, accomplissant les volontés de la chair et de nos pensées, et nous étions par nature des enfants de colère, comme les autres...

Ephesians 2:4

^A iþ guþ, gabigs wisands in armahairtein, in þizos managons frijaþwos þizaiei frijoda uns,

— ὁ δὲ θεὸς πλούσιος ὢν ἐν ἐλέει, διὰ τὴν πολλὴν ἀγάπην αὐτοῦ ἣν ἠγάπησεν ἡμᾶς,

— Deus autem, qui dives est in misericordia, propter nimiam caritatem suam, qua dilexit nos,

— But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,

— Maar God, Die rijk is in barmhartigheid door Zijn grote liefde, waarmede Hij ons liefgehad heeft,

— Mais Dieu, qui est riche en miséricorde, à cause du grand amour dont il nous a aimés,

Ephesians 2:5

^A jah wisandans uns dauþans frawaurhtim miþgaqiwida uns Xristau — anstai sijuþ ganasidai —

— καὶ ὄντας ἡμᾶς νεκροὺς τοῖς παραπτώμασιν συνεζωοποίησεν τῷ χριστῷ – χάριτί ἐστε σεσῳσμένοι –

— et cum essemus mortui peccatis, convivificavit nos in Christo (cujus gratia estis salvati),

— Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)

— Ook toen wij dood waren door de misdaden, heeft ons levend gemaakt met Christus; (uit genade zijt gij zalig geworden)

— nous qui étions morts par nos offenses, nous a rendus à la vie avec Christ (c'est par grâce que vous êtes sauvés);

Ephesians 2:6

^A jah miþurraisida jah miþgasatida in himinakundaim in Xristau Iesu,

^B jah miþurraisidai jah miþgasatidai in himinakundaim in Xristau Iesu,

— καὶ συνήγειρεν καὶ συνεκάθισεν ἐν τοῖς ἐπουρανίοις ἐν χριστῷ ἰησοῦ,

— et conresuscitavit, et consedere fecit in cælestibus in Christo Jesu :

— And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:

— En heeft ons mede opgewekt, en heeft ons mede gezet in den hemel in Christus Jezus;

— il nous a ressuscités ensemble, et nous a fait asseoir ensemble dans les lieux célestes, en Jésus Christ,

Ephesians 2:7

^A ei ataugjai in ald[a]im þaim anagaggandeim ufarassu gabeins anstais seinaizos in selein bi uns in Xristau Iesu.

^B ei ataugjai in aldim þaim anagaggandeim ufarassu gabeins anstais seinaizos in selein bi uns in Xristau Iesu.

— ἵνα ἐνδείξηται ἐν τοῖς αἰῶσιν τοῖς ἐπερχομένοις τὸ ὑπερβάλλον πλοῦτος τῆς χάριτος αὐτοῦ ἐν χρηστότητι ἐφ' ἡμᾶς ἐν χριστῷ ἰησοῦ.

— ut ostenderet in sæculis supervenientibus abundantes divitias gratiæ suæ, in bonitate super nos in Christo Jesu.

— That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.

— Opdat Hij zou betonen in de toekomende eeuwen den uitnemenden rijkdom Zijner genade, door de goedertierenheid over ons in Christus Jezus.

— afin de montrer dans les siècles à venir l'infinie richesse de sa grâce par sa bonté envers nous en Jésus Christ.

Ephesians 2:8

^A unte anstai siuþ ganasidai þairh galaubein, jah þata ni us izwis, ak gudis giba ist;

^B unte anstai sijuþ ganasidai þairh galaubein, jah þata ni us izwis, ak gudis giba ist;

— τῇ γὰρ χάριτί ἐστε σεσῳσμένοι διὰ πίστεως: καὶ τοῦτο οὐκ ἐξ ὑμῶν, θεοῦ τὸ δῶρον:

— Gratia enim estis salvati per fidem, et hoc non ex vobis : Dei enim donum est :

— For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

— Want uit genade zijt gij zalig geworden door het geloof; en dat niet uit u, het is Gods gave;

— Car c'est par la grâce que vous êtes sauvés, par le moyen de la foi. Et cela ne vient pas de vous, c'est le don de Dieu.

Ephesians 2:9

^{A + B} ni us waurstwam, ei ƕas ni ƕopai,

— οὐκ ἐξ ἔργων, ἵνα μή τις καυχήσηται.

— non ex operibus, ut ne quis glorietur.

— Not of works, lest any man should boast.

— Niet uit de werken, opdat niemand roeme.

— Ce n'est point par les oeuvres, afin que personne ne se glorifie.

Ephesians 2:10

^A ak is sium taui, gaskapanai in Xristau Iesu du waurstwam godaim, þoei fauragamanwida guþ, ei in þaim gaggaima.

^B ak is sijum taui, gaskapanai in Xristau Iesu du waurstwam godaim, þoei fauragamanwida guþ, ei in þaim gaggaima.

— αὐτοῦ γάρ ἐσμεν ποίημα, κτισθέντες ἐν χριστῷ ἰησοῦ ἐπὶ ἔργοις ἀγαθοῖς οἷς προητοίμασεν ὁ θεὸς ἵνα ἐν αὐτοῖς περιπατήσωμεν.

— Ipsius enim sumus factura, creati in Christo Jesu in operibus bonis, quæ præparavit Deus ut in illis ambulemus.

— For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

— Want wij zijn Zijn maaksel, geschapen in Christus Jezus tot goede werken, welke God voorbereid heeft, opdat wij in dezelve zouden wandelen.

— Car nous sommes son ouvrage, ayant été créés en Jésus Christ pour de bonnes oeuvres, que Dieu a préparées d'avance, afin que nous les pratiquions.

Ephesians 2:11

^{A + B} duþþe gamuneiþ þatei jus þiudos simle wesuþ in leika, þai namnidans unbimaitanai fram þizai namnidon bimait in leika handuwaurht.

— διὸ μνημονεύετε ὅτι ποτὲ ὑμεῖς τὰ ἔθνη ἐν σαρκί, οἱ λεγόμενοι ἀκροβυστία ὑπὸ τῆς λεγομένης περιτομῆς ἐν σαρκὶ χειροποιήτου,

— Propter quod memores estote quod aliquando vos gentes in carne, qui dicimini præputium ab ea quæ dicitur circumcisio in carne, manu facta :

— Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands;

— Daarom gedenkt, dat gij, die eertijds heidenen waart in het vlees, en die voorhuid genaamd werdt van degenen, die genaamd zijn besnijdenis in het vlees, die met handen geschiedt;

— C'est pourquoi, vous autrefois païens dans la chair, appelés incirconcis par ceux qu'on appelle circoncis et qui le sont en la chair par la main de l'homme,

Ephesians 2:12

^A unte wesuþ þan in jainamma mela inu Xristu, framaþjai usmetis Israelis jah gasteis gahaite trausteis, wen ni habandans jah gudalausai in manasedai.

^B unte wesuþ þan in jainamma mela inuh Xristu, framaþjai usmetis Israelis jah gasteis gahaite trausteis, wen ni habandans jah gudalausai in manasedai.

— ὅτι ἦτε τῷ καιρῷ ἐκείνῳ χωρὶς χριστοῦ, ἀπηλλοτριωμένοι τῆς πολιτείας τοῦ ἰσραὴλ καὶ ξένοι τῶν διαθηκῶν τῆς ἐπαγγελίας, ἐλπίδα μὴ ἔχοντες καὶ ἄθεοι ἐν τῷ κόσμῳ.

— quia eratis illo in tempore sine Christo, alienati a conversatione Israël, et hospites testamentorum, promissionis spem non habentes, et sine Deo in hoc mundo.

— That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:

— Dat gij in dien tijd waart zonder Christus, vervreemd van het burgerschap Israels, en vreemdelingen van de verbonden der belofte, geen hoop hebbende, en zonder God in de wereld.

— souvenez-vous que vous étiez en ce temps-là sans Christ, privés du droit de cité en Israël, étrangers aux alliances de la promesse, sans espérance et sans Dieu dans le monde.

Ephesians 2:13

^A iþ nu sai, in Xristau Iesu jus juzei simle wesuþ fairra, waurþuþ neƕa in bloþa Xristaus.

^B iþ nu sai, in Xristau Iesu jus juzei simle wesuþ fairra, waurþuþ neƕa in bloþa Xristaus.

— νυνὶ δὲ ἐν χριστῷ ἰησοῦ ὑμεῖς οἵ ποτε ὄντες μακρὰν ἐγενήθητε ἐγγὺς ἐν τῷ αἵματι τοῦ χριστοῦ.

— Nunc autem in Christo Jesu, vos, qui aliquando eratis longe, facti estis prope in sanguine Christi.

— But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.

— Maar nu in Christus Jezus, zijt gij, die eertijds verre waart, nabij geworden door het bloed van Christus.

— Mais maintenant, en Jésus Christ, vous qui étiez jadis éloignés, vous avez été rapprochés par le sang de Christ.

Ephesians 2:14

^A sa auk ist gawairþi unsar, saei gatawida þo ba du samin jah midgardiwaddju faþos gatairands,

^B sa auk ist gawairþi unsar, saei gatawida þo ba du samin jah miþgardawaddju faþos gatairands,

— αὐτὸς γάρ ἐστιν ἡ εἰρήνη ἡμῶν, ὁ ποιήσας τὰ ἀμφότερα ἓν καὶ τὸ μεσότοιχον τοῦ φραγμοῦ λύσας, τὴν ἔχθραν, ἐν τῇ σαρκὶ αὐτοῦ,

— Ipse enim est pax nostra, qui fecit utraque unum, et medium parietem maceriæ solvens, inimicitias in carne sua,

— For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;

— Want Hij is onze vrede, Die deze beiden een gemaakt heeft, en den middelmuur des afscheidsels gebroken hebbende,

— Car il est notre paix, lui qui des deux n'en a fait qu'un, et qui a renversé le mur de séparation, l'inimitié,

Ephesians 2:15

^A fijaþwa, ana leika seinamma witoþ anabusne garaideinim gatairands, ei þans twans gaskopi in sis silbin du ainamma niujamma mann, waurkjands gawairþi,

— τὸν νόμον τῶν ἐντολῶν ἐν δόγμασιν καταργήσας, ἵνα τοὺς δύο κτίσῃ ἐν αὐτῷ εἰς ἕνα καινὸν ἄνθρωπον ποιῶν εἰρήνην,

— legem mandatorum decretis evacuans, ut duos condat in semetipso in unum novum hominem, faciens pacem :

— Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace;

— Heeft Hij de vijandschap in Zijn vlees te niet gemaakt, namelijk de wet der geboden in inzettingen bestaande; opdat Hij die twee in Zichzelven tot een nieuwen mens zou scheppen, vrede makende;

— ayant anéanti par sa chair la loi des ordonnances dans ses prescriptions, afin de créer en lui-même avec les deux un seul homme nouveau, en établissant la paix,

Ephesians 2:16

— καὶ ἀποκαταλλάξῃ τοὺς ἀμφοτέρους ἐν ἑνὶ σώματι τῷ θεῷ διὰ τοῦ σταυροῦ, ἀποκτείνας τὴν ἔχθραν ἐν αὐτῷ.

— et reconciliet ambos in uno corpore, Deo per crucem, interficiens inimicitias in semetipso.

— And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby:

— En opdat Hij die beiden met God in een lichaam zou verzoenen door het kruis, de vijandschap aan hetzelve gedood hebbende.

— et de les réconcilier, l'un et l'autre en un seul corps, avec Dieu par la croix, en détruisant par elle l'inimitié.

Ephesians 2:17

^A jah qimands wailamerida gawairþi izwis juzei fairra jah gawairþi þaim ize neƕa;

— καὶ ἐλθὼν εὐηγγελίσατο εἰρήνην ὑμῖν τοῖς μακρὰν καὶ εἰρήνην τοῖς ἐγγύς:

— Et veniens evangelizavit pacem vobis, qui longe fuistis, et pacem iis, qui prope.

— And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh.

— En komende, heeft Hij door het Evangelie vrede verkondigd u, die verre waart, en dien, die nabij waren.

— Il est venu annoncer la paix à vous qui étiez loin, et la paix à ceux qui étaient près;

Ephesians 2:18

^A unte þairh ina habam atgagg bajoþs in ainamma ahmin du attin.

^B unte þairh ina habam atgagg bajoþs in ainamma ahmin du attin.

— ὅτι δι' αὐτοῦ ἔχομεν τὴν προσαγωγὴν οἱ ἀμφότεροι ἐν ἑνὶ πνεύματι πρὸς τὸν πατέρα.

— Quoniam per ipsum habemus accessum ambo in uno Spiritu ad Patrem.

— For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.

— Want door Hem hebben wij beiden den toegang door een Geest tot den Vader.

— car par lui nous avons les uns et les autres accès auprès du Père, dans un même Esprit.

Ephesians 2:19

^A sai nu ni sijuþ gasteis jah aljakonjai, ak sijuþ gabaurgjans þaim weiham jah ingardjans gudis,

^B sai nu ju ni sijuþ gasteis jah aljakonjai, ak sijuþ gabaurgjans þaim weiham jah ingardjans gudis,

— ἄρα οὖν οὐκέτι ἐστὲ ξένοι καὶ πάροικοι, ἀλλὰ ἐστὲ συμπολῖται τῶν ἁγίων καὶ οἰκεῖοι τοῦ θεοῦ,

— Ergo jam non estis hospites, et advenæ : sed estis cives sanctorum, et domestici Dei,

— Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;

— Zo zijt gij dan niet meer vreemdelingen en bijwoners, maar medeburgers der heiligen, en huisgenoten Gods;

— Ainsi donc, vous n'êtes plus des étrangers, ni des gens du dehors; mais vous êtes concitoyens des saints, gens de la maison de Dieu.

Ephesians 2:20

^A anatimridai ....

^B anatimridai ana grunduwaddjau apaustaule jah praufete, at wisandin auhumistin waihstastaina silbin Xristau Iesu,

— ἐποικοδομηθέντες ἐπὶ τῷ θεμελίῳ τῶν ἀποστόλων καὶ προφητῶν, ὄντος ἀκρογωνιαίου αὐτοῦ χριστοῦ ἰησοῦ,

— superædificati super fundamentum apostolorum, et prophetarum, ipso summo angulari lapide Christo Jesu :

— And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;

— Gebouwd op het fondament der apostelen en profeten, waarvan Jezus Christus is de uiterste Hoeksteen;

— Vous avez été édifiés sur le fondement des apôtres et des prophètes, Jésus Christ lui-même étant la pierre angulaire.

Ephesians 2:21

^B in þammei alla gatimrjo gagatiloda wahseiþ du alh weihai in fraujin,

— ἐν ᾧ πᾶσα οἰκοδομὴ συναρμολογουμένη αὔξει εἰς ναὸν ἅγιον ἐν κυρίῳ,

— in quo omnis ædificatio constructa crescit in templum sanctum in Domino,

— In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord:

— Op Welken het gehele gebouw, bekwamelijk samengevoegd zijnde, opwast tot een heiligen tempel in den Heere;

— En lui tout l'édifice, bien coordonné, s'élève pour être un temple saint dans le Seigneur.

Ephesians 2:22

^B in þammei jah jus miþgatimridai sijuþ du bauainai gudis in ahmin.

— ἐν ᾧ καὶ ὑμεῖς συνοικοδομεῖσθε εἰς κατοικητήριον τοῦ θεοῦ ἐν πνεύματι.

— in quo et vos coædificamini in habitaculum Dei in Spiritu.

— In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.

— Op Welken ook gij mede gebouwd wordt tot een woonstede Gods in den Geest.

— En lui vous êtes aussi édifiés pour être une habitation de Dieu en Esprit.
